Motion Planning: A Journey of Robots, Molecules, Digital Actors, and Other Artifacts

چکیده
During the last three decades motion planning has emerged as a crucial and productive research area in robotics. In the mid-80's the most advanced planners were barely able to compute collisionfree paths for objects crawling in planar workspaces. Today, planners e ciently deal with robots with many degrees of freedom in complex environments. Techniques also exist to generate quasioptimal trajectories, coordinate multiple robots, deal with dynamic and kinematic constraints, and handle dynamic environments. This paper describes some of these achievements, presents new problems that have recently emerged, discusses applications likely to motivate future research, and nally gives expectations for the coming years. It stresses the fact that non-robotics applications (e.g., graphic animation, surgical planning, computational biology) are growing in importance and are likely to shape future motion planning research more than robotics itself.

Direct Optimal Motion Planning for Omni-directional Mobile Robots under Limitation on Velocity and Acceleration
This paper describes a low computational direct approach for optimal motion planning and obstacle avoidance of Omni-directional mobile robots within velocity and acceleration constraints on the robot motion. The main purpose of this problem is the minimization of a quadratic cost function while limitation on velocity and acceleration of robot is considered and collision with any obstacle in the...
متن کاملA Low Friction Demanding Approach in Gait Planning for Humanoid Robots During 3D Manoeuvres
This paper proposes a gait planning approach to reduce the required friction for a biped robot walking on various surfaces. To this end, a humanoid robot with 18 DOF is considered to develop a dynamics model for studying various 3D manoeuvres. Then, feasible trajectories are developed to alleviate the fluctuations on the upper body to resemble human-like walking. In order to generate feasible w...
متن کاملA Study of Motion Planning Algorithms for Mobile Robots
--This paper introduces a study of motion planning algorithms for mobile robots in which we addresses the problem of designing provable path planning algorithm in the frame work of the model with incomplete information. We introduces two such algorithms are called Bug algorithms that uses less sensing information than any other within the family of bug algorithm. This paper present the first ap...
متن کامل3D collision avoidance for digital actors locomotion
This paper presents some evolutions over the locomotion planning problem for digital actors. The solution is based both on probabilistic motion planning and on motion capture blending and warping. The paper particularly focuses on a new collision avoidance technique: while the legs and the pelvis of the digital actor follow a planned path, the animation of the upper part of the body is updated ...
متن کاملDirecting Intelligent Digital Actor with Real-Time Motion Planning
Automatic motion generation for digital actors under real-time user control is a challenging problem for virtual environment applications such as on-line games. Despite many advances have been made in the past few years, most systems cannot generate full humanoid motions in real time on an uneven terrain cluttered with obstacles of various heights. In this paper, we propose a real-time motion p...
